![]() ![]() The third item in my Network Connections window is "Wireless Network Connection 3" which has status "Connected." And I don't have any network cables, I use WIFI exclusively. In my Network Connections window, there are two "local area connections", one with device name "Realtek RTL8168C(P)/81", and the other with device name "TAP-Win32 Adapter V9." Both have status "Network cable unplugged." There's no option to enable them. In the SoftEther VPN Client Manager window, "VPN Gate Connection" reads "Offline." In the lower window, "VPN Client Adapter-VPN" reads "Disabled." When I select "Enable Virtual Network Adapter" nothing happens, it still reads "Disabled." Before using this VPN connection setting, enable the virtual network adapter." When I try to connect, I get "The virtual network adapter being used by the specified VPN connection setting has been disabled. normal shell tools, etc.).I just installed the latest version. So far in this project, the only thing that approaches the abject horror of dealing with Windows networking is the insane fragmentation of Linux init systems (four flavors of SysV-init script spaghetti, old systemd, new systemd, upstart, busybox vs. You're welcome to help out, but I'm not liable for personal emotional trauma endured from touching the Windows network stack. In general Windows IP and network driver layers are absolutely horrendous messes of conflicting layers of backward-compatible cruft. There are a lot of tiny gotchas around supporting Windows networking cleanly. There is now an NDIS 6 driver for OpenVPN, and I've planned on taking this driver and stripping, cleaning, and augmenting it in precisely the same way as the NDIS 5 driver that currently ships. It also contains an additional IOCTL to read the Ethernet multicast subscription table, since Windows (unlike other OSes) appears to have no native way to do this. The current NDIS 5 driver is a simplified, stripped down fork of the OpenVPN tun-windows driver. ![]() and nobody uses Vista so it's not worth the trouble to test.) It would make sense to keep the NDIS 5 driver if we wanted to support XP or Vista, but ZeroTier already does not support those for other reasons- they are missing important network API calls that are needed. ![]() NDIS 5 is deprecated and has been for a long time. The thing that really needs to be done is to upgrade the Windows driver to NDIS 6. I'll be trying to fix them in my spare time because I plan to use ZT quite extensively on Windows in the near future. I don't think these issues are critical, but they certainly need to be addressed at some point.
