A wide, one-toothed smile from one of the spotted wolffish. The wolffish larvae are at risk of being prey to Atlantic cod, Greenland sharks, gray seals, haddock, and some spotted wolffish. The only significant predator that would feed off this species is Atlantic cod. Wolffish do not have many natural predators in their environments. To catch and chew hard prey, Atlantic Wolffish have large fang-like teeth in the front of their mouth and round, molar-like teeth in the back of their mouth used to crush food. A human’s bite force is only about 120 pounds per square inch, and a large domestic dog’s is about 320 pounds per square inch-but the bite force of a wolf is almost 400 pounds of pressure per square inch! They live in the cold waters of the North Pacific, from California to the Sea of Japan, down to around 200 metres underwater.
